Great Smoky Mountains National Park Service Jobs, Intern, SCA and Volunteer Positions

There are many different job possibilities in and around Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park Employment Opportunities - Full Time Positions come open every so often with the National Park Service. These positions are announced and filled through the Federal Register. See the Park Service link below for more information.

Call the Park's Job Announcement Line at 865-436-1223, anytime, to listen to a recorded message and submit a request for application material. Always request the full announcement to ensure you obtain a copy of the application guidelines and any supplemental forms that may be required. If you need further information, you may call the Personnel Office at 865-436-1277 or 865-436-1287, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 4:30 pm.

Temporary / Seasonal Positions with the National Park Service.

While the number of visitors to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park increases each year, funding and resources to provide for these people and their needs do not keep increasing rapidly enough to keep up with the increased visitation. The Volunteers in Parks (VIP) program allows/permits people from all walks of life to step in and lend a hand to help the park staff assist the visitors by doing jobs that otherwise could not be done.

Some of the way the VIP's help out here are by:

To apply for the program, you simply call or write the park requesting the Volunteers in Parks' information packet. It will contain more details of these and other positions available here, along with an application form you fill out and return to the park. Please keep in mind that housing in the park is not available.

Student Conservation Association (SCA) has summer positions in just about all the national parks. These are volunteer positions that work with park service personnel. You receive valuable experience working with rangers and the public in a national park setting. Your compensation is room and board and work experience.

The Park Service Intern Positions and the SCA Positions are very competitive. Plan to apply at least a year in advance to have a chance to work in one of these positions.
